Ducted air conditioning systems

Ducted units hide entirely inside the ceiling void and deliver conditioned air through short ducts to ceiling grilles — no visible indoor unit anywhere in the room. One indoor can serve two to six zones, making ducted the specifier's default for high-end offices, hotels, and heritage refurbishments where wall or ceiling clutter is unacceptable.

Key benefits

01

Completely invisible

The indoor unit and duct runs sit inside the void — the room only shows a discreet supply/return grille.

02

One indoor, multiple zones

A single slim-ducted unit typically serves 2-6 rooms via ducting, cutting equipment count and outdoor-unit real estate.

03

Medium static — flexible layout

The FBA range's medium static pressure (up to 150 Pa) lets ducts route around obstructions without capacity loss.

04

Whisper-quiet in occupancy

Indoor unit is above the ceiling; only air-noise reaches the room — typically <28 dB(A) at the grille.

05

Customisable airflow

Independent per-outlet damper control means each zone can be tuned during commissioning without re-ducting.

Daikin model families

  • 01
    FBA-A / AZAS-M / ARXM-A

    Slim Ducted — medium static

Slimmest medium-static-pressure ducted unit on the market.

Ultra-slim indoor unit designed for shallow ceiling voids where a standard ducted won't fit. Delivers medium static pressure to serve multi-zone layouts, runs quietly, and adapts to non-standard duct routes. Compatible with both Sky Air (AZAS) and split (ARXM) outdoor units for spec flexibility.

  • 02
    FBA-A / RXM-A

    Ducted Standard inverter

Economical ducted spec for small commercial and residential fit-outs.

Medium-static ducted indoor paired with a standard split outdoor — the value option for single-zone fit-outs where the outdoor can sit within ~20m. Compatible with the FBA slim-body indoor for shallow ceiling voids.

  • 03
    FBA-A / RZASG

    Ducted Advance

Standard commercial ducted paired with Sky Air Advance.

Medium-static ducted indoor with the Sky Air Advance outdoor — the specifier's default for typical office, hotel and retail fit-outs. R-32 refrigerant, DIII-Net compatible, extended pipe runs versus the Standard split.

  • 04
    FBA-A / RZAG

    Ducted Alpha

    Best-in-class SEER/SCOP for efficiency-critical projects.

Paired with Sky Air Alpha for the highest seasonal efficiency in the ducted range. Same medium static pressure and slim body as Advance, with tighter part-load performance for long-hours buildings and BREEAM-scored fit-outs.

  • 05
    FBA-A / RZAG-B

    Ducted Alpha (RZAG-B outdoor)

Alpha efficiency with the latest RZAG-B outdoor generation.

Latest RZAG-B outdoor pairing for the FBA ducted range — updated compressor and heat exchanger for further part-load gains. Use when specifying against the newest Daikin selection software or when tender documents call up the -B suffix.

  • 06
    FBA-A / RZASG / RZAG

    High-static Ducted

Long duct runs and larger footprints where medium static isn't enough.

High-static-pressure variant of the FBA ducted range — sustains airflow through long, restrictive or high-resistance duct networks that would starve a medium-static unit. Compatible with both Sky Air Advance (RZASG) and Alpha (RZAG) outdoors. Right for larger open-plan floors, deep-plan retail and multi-zone hotel layouts.

  • 07
    FDXM-F / RZAG

    Slim Ducted FDXM — Alpha

Ultra-slim split ducted with Alpha efficiency for tight ceiling voids.

FDXM-F ultra-slim indoor paired with Sky Air Alpha — designed for the shallowest ceiling voids where even the FBA slim-body won't fit. Right for hotel bedroom corridors, low-ceiling retrofits and grade-listed spaces where every mm of void matters.

  • 08
    FDXM-F / RXM-A

Slim Ducted FDXM — Standard inverter

    Economical ultra-slim ducted for small light-commercial fit-outs.

Same ultra-slim FDXM-F indoor paired with a standard split outdoor — the value spec for boutique-hotel single-room retrofits and light-commercial fit-outs where the outdoor can sit within ~20m. R-32 refrigerant.

Frequently asked

How much ceiling void does a ducted AC unit need?
A slim-ducted Daikin FBA unit fits in a void as shallow as ~200mm plus duct depth — one of the shallowest on the market. Standard ducted units typically need 300-400mm.
Can one ducted indoor serve a whole office?
Only if the office is one thermal zone. For multi-zone control (separate meeting rooms, executive offices, open plan), specify one ducted indoor per zone or move to a VRV/VRF system where multiple indoors share a single outdoor.
Are ducted systems more expensive than cassettes?
Yes — typically 20-40% more installed, because of duct materials, grilles and additional labour. The trade-off is a completely invisible install and per-zone airflow control, which specifiers pay for on high-end fit-outs.
